Informative, friendly, relaxing

The tour was very informative and relaxing. I felt at ease in the tour guides hands. Being able to shop at local Mayan villages was a real treat and I’m happy to know my dollars are going to honest, hard working locals.

The tour is billed to start at 9am from Tulum but actually our scheduled pick up was 9.40am which would be fine - but we left from the pick up over half an hour late. As everyone else on the tour was picked up from further away the first stop we made was for lunch. The stop was billed as an authentic Mayan village where souvenirs were sold - that could be the case realistically but it really was such a tourist trap. We were spoken to about obsidian stone for ages and then ushered through shops like cattle moving from one pen to another. The stuff was overpriced in compared to other tourist shops which is why I think it was the first stop. The lunch was then a large buffet with a couple of Mexican classics but also sides of spaghetti etc. It was nothing to write home about. When we were finished bottles of a traditional Mayan juice was then handed out in the bus to get us to buy them - could have been a nice thing executed correctly but it was seemingly just another tourist trap. Our next stop was Chichen Itza. We stood around waiting to actually go into the site for about half an hour before going in - we then we’re able to go in and got a tour with our guide. It covered the basics giving context to the buildings but only a small area was covered. We were given half an hour of time to walk around ourselves which really didn’t cut it to see everything. The stop was half an hour shorter than the stop to buy souvenirs which is shocking as it was the headline attraction for the tour. Once everyone eventually got back on the bus we went to a large cenote. 90% of the tour seemed to not want to go in as it was at this point so late in the day thanks to all the time wasted waiting around for people at various stops and we had 50 minutes to go in and out. Our final stop was a Yucutan village - famed for its colourful streets and buildings which was pitch black by the time we arrived and we had 30 minutes here. The tour guide made a special point of telling us about a Chinese restaurant in case we wanted to order for the bus. By the time we had gotten back from the tour I had a banging headache - probably lack of water as the two bottles that the tour mentioned it supplied never materialised and there was little opportunity to get a bottle on the pit stops and see the attractions we’d come to see. Overall if you want a tour to actually see Chichen Itza - this isn’t it. If you want to make as many pit stops as possible for photo ops and have a miserable day but something to post on Instagram then this will do it. To finish the day before our drop off our guides did a speech about tips and how they live off the tips etc. They all did their best to make it an enjoyable tour but ultimately it was poorly planned - it kind of made it even worse that after a miserable day we were given a speech about tips. Not that they were to blame but after all the money paid for not a lot - as each stop came with a hidden cost we thought was included - it’s disappointing that they’re not even paying the guides enough to run the tours.

The most memorable points of my trip was Freddy's vast knowledge of the Mayan ruins, Victor's intimate details of Mayan culture and it's relevance to our lives today, and diving into Cenote with the fish and other excited tourists! I felt safe and well taken care of by the guides and bus driver the entire 12 hours! I woild do it again! I loooooove my shopping gift items and the buffet was soooo delicious! You have a great service here!

I thought the guides were great, and I loved Chichen Itza and the Cenote and the quick (very quick) stop in Valladolid. But maybe I didn’t read the description well, first actual activity is directed towards shopping at this specific place which they sponsor (Mayan community and their school projects). It was informative, but it was a whole hour here (this is the same place were have lunch). And there is also guilt involved (“you would spend as much in a tequila bottle”). Then someone takes your picture there, which I assumed was going to be offered to us to purchase later, but it was worse because they went through the effort of putting it into the label of a bottle of a liquor they make (which is good) and hand it to you to purchase “no pressure”. I felt bad not buying it ($20) but I was not going to drink it and I could not fit it on my carry on bag.

Great for Shopping for Souvenirs, I Guess.

This tour felt like nothing more than a forced shopping tour. We were also not aware of the sheer amount of extra money to bring as required items were not covered. The actual experiences were rushed considering this was nearly 12 hours. The description does not convey that you will only spend 1 hour at a cenote and about 2 hours at the ruins. The other nine hours are spent assembling the group, driving, and shopping. It wasn't what I was expecting.

How the day will go

, Sep 2021
The day was everything that we had hoped it would be and more! The drive was long but on the way, Alfredo, our guide was very informative of how the day would go. first stop was an awesome lunch in a Mayan village along with shopping that helps support the Mayan culture and Heritage. Then on to Chichen itza! We had a guide who worked in the park who spoke english very well and was quite informative as well as patient with questions and photos. Back on the bus we went and off to the Cenote. It was gorgeous and we enjoyed the cool crisp water after the hot walk in chichen itza. We made one last stop into the Square of valladolid where I loaded up on mexican candies. The ride back to Tulum seemed like forever but also we were exhausted from the active day. It was absolutely worth it! TIP YOUR GUIDES! ALWAYS! And your driver. They certainly will earn your gratuity

I liked our tour of the ruins. Our tour guide Gonzales was very knowledgeable and presented the history very well. I would say that they spent too much time at the first stop where we were sold crafts and also didn’t think going to the colonial town was necessary. But overall a great experience. The guides tried their best to make sure we enjoyed the experience. It is definitely a long day. Almost 12 hours depending on your stop. We were in Tulum. So plan to be with them all day.
