Chichen Itza
Your tour begins with an early morning departure. Arriving at Chichen Itza, join your specialized guide for an in-depth tour of the site, and enjoy the tranquility of your early-morning visit before the crowds arrive. Throughout the trip, your archaeological guide’s commentary provides essential background to the well-preserved site of Chichen Itza. Learn how this large pre-Colombian city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around A.D. 600 to 1200, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spanish. Even today, it is still considered a sacred site by the Yucatán peninsula’s Maya population. Like many of ancient Mexico’s cities, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden by jungle. Hear how the site was discovered and unearthed by archaeologists, gaining UNESCO protection and considered today one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Your guide will explain the philosophy, cosmology and mythology behind this ancient site, such as the meaning of the stone carvings, pyramids, platforms, ball courts and staircases. Visit the Observatory, Temple of the Jaguars, Temple of the Warriors and of course the famous El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulkan.  Return around 3:00 p.m. With this Viator Exclusive, your early morning trip to Chichen Itza helps you to beat the crowds so you can enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your own leisure!

Marco was a very interesting and knowledgeable guide and made for a very nice day ! Todo Togo was the guide at Chichen Itza and he was excellent also and, as a native Mayan who grew up on the site of Chichen Itza he had a passion for telling this story. Top notch !

Great tour, untruthful guides.

Let me start by saying that the tour & activity portions of this excursion is top notch. Marco & Rodrigo are great guides and Rogrigo's knowledge of the temple complex combined with his presentation makes the whole trip worthwhile. We really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it. The lunch is an all you can eat buffet in a great location and the food is very good. The Tequila "tasting" is just another sales pitch. You get to taste some good Tequila, then they try to hard sell you on buying their "handmade" small batch Tequila for astronomical prices. Granted, it was good Tequila, but not for the price they were offering considering all the options available (at least to us in the US). The Cenote is a must do experience and is excellent. My issue with the tour is the commerce portions and the disingenuous way that Marco and Rodrigo aren't exactly truthful. When you get to the temple site, Marco and Rodgrigo repeatedly state that the vendors selling on site are selling subpar items, made in China, at high prices. They reiterate that rather than spending your tourist dollars buying these expensive, subpar items, hold your money and spend it at the lunch area - the items are better quality, made by locals and better priced. This is not entirely true. While the items are much better quality at the lunch spot, the prices are astronomical and there are no simple, inexpensive souvenirs. A chessboard made of stone at the temple site was 1/10th the cost of a similar set at the lunch location. There were no "cheap" items there at the lunch spot. Granted, they were all high quality handcrafted items, but not a place you're going to load up on souvenirs for kids or people back home - buy those things at the temple complex and buy a piece of art at the lunch spot. A lot of people on our tour were VERY upset this had happened - and we were no exception. We were also told that any items purchased would be "blessed" - they just failed to tells us that there was a quite significant cost to get things "blessed" and wafted with smoke by some dude that may or may not have been a priest. The whole experience put a bad taste in our mouth. This review would have gotten 6 stars if our guides had simply been truthful - buy cheap trinkets at the temple complex, but save some money for a signature item from the lunch spot OR have the lunch spot actually have cheap trinkets on hand for those that want them instead of the pieces they were offering for 100's of $. Had that happened, we would have gotten the cheaper things we wanted at the temple and not felt so cheated at lunch - we might have actually bought something. Instead, we had to spend more time after we got back chasing down trinkets to take home - time we could have spent at the complex.

Dear Amig@ Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us your comments. We are very happy to know that you had an extraordinary experience with Marco and Rodrigo. We deeply regret that the part of the souvenir purchase has overshadowed all the work that was behind the whole experience, we understand that from your point of view this has not been to your liking. We look forward to seeing you on your next trip. Dulce, Amigo Tours

Great trip, highly suggested.

Great trip all around. From our guide to the events, it was our best tour. Our guide shared interesting information and kept our attention the whole tour. The stop at the cenote was equally awesome, I’m thankful for the information he shared about it too. Just going to a cenote is great but the information added made it so much more and made the cenote come to life. The stop at the little store along with getting to eat with them, was great. To be able to hear this little hostess talk about the many families that work there, the obsidian items and the shaman that were there to help you, was fascinating and a memorable experience. We’ve been on many tours, this one was NOT a disappointment, the experience is more than it shows on the advertisement. We would suggest it to others.

Not So Early Access
Beth_P

Don't get me wrong, the tour guides were good and of course the sights alone were worth this tour, but we picked this tour specifically to get the early access, but didn't get to Chichen Itza until noon. We even stopped in Valladolid prior to Chichen Itza. They were so worried about pooling everyone into one big bus so we could all ride together, that apparently the people who signed up for the early access just got looped in with everyone else. They filled the bus completely full (around 50 people on this bus). This tour lasted 14.5 hours and only 4.5 hours of that we were off the bus. We got picked up at 6:40am and didn't get back until 9:15pm. And you only get one lunch included, so make sure you either bring food to snack on or buy food at the pit stops. They do include plenty of stops to go to the bathroom. They say that you get special access that traditional tours don't get, but we only went around the Chichen Itza grounds were many other tourists were. They break you into groups of 10 or less at Chichen Itza. Our tour guide was great. He gave his description in the shaded areas as it was so hot, then let us get closer up pictures. He would even take pictures for us. Make sure you bring water! The lunch buffet was good. With the deluxe package we got soda or water. You had to pay extra for anything else, but it was pretty cheap. The Cenote was one of the best parts of the tour. It was so refreshing after the hot day. Overall, I would have rated them higher if we got the early access like we paid for.

Rodrigo and Tony were wonderful tour guides- very knowledgeable and friendly, made the tour educational and fun. We had an amazing experience with our family. We left from the hotel district from Cancun so it was a long bus ride but manageable. Make sure to bring plenty of water- Chichen Itza is sunny and very hot!!! Food at the buffet was tasty. The cenote was busy but enjoyable and well organized.

Great tour

Overall it was a great trip. It would have been nice if some of the stops (e.g. cenote & valladolid) were a little bit longer. Also, I purchased the early access trip but we were there in the heat of the day (noon) and there were lots of other people there. The COVID precautions were well in place and the staff were very nice and knowledgeable. I would recommend this to others.
