Overview

This full-day tour from Cancun packs a sightseeing punch—see Valladolid, a 16th-century colonial city, visit the ancient Maya civilization of Chichen Itza, a UNESCO Site, and have a chance to participate in an ancient Mayan purification ritual of Temazcal guided by a real shaman. In the archaeological zone, admire the Kukulkan pyramid and the Temple of Warriors. A guide explains the cultural importance of the landmarks you stroll past. Spend leisurely time relaxing in the peaceful cenote of Ik-Kil. With round-trip hotel transport, this is a hassle-free experience you don’t want to miss. *Please note that cenote Ik Kil is still closed and on the tour, at the moment, we will visit the cenote Selva Maya, which is very similar to Ikkil, until Ikkil is opened.

Excellent tour. A must do. Be prepared for a very long long long day. It’s worth it though. The cenote and the pyramid was worth the wait.

Many companies offer trips like this at various price points. However, not all the companies are the same. This Olmar Travel is exceptional to say the very least. After booking I was contacted almost immediately (another excursion I booked with a different company never contacted me until the week before). My girlfriend and I decided to upgrade hotels three weeks before the trip. The same day I contacted Olmar Travel they responded and confirmed they got my message and gave me a new pick up time and date that accommodated our changes. This is a very long trip and day. I do not suggest this for young children. We left our hotel around 7:40am and got back roughly 8:00pm. I wish we could have had more time in Valladolid. Please make a separate trip that includes more of Valladolid. All in all a very good tour for the trips and it’s an independent company, not one of the big corporate ones, like overpriced AMStar

Horrible Schedule with Nice People

Our excellent driver picked us up on time at hotel. We drove for 2 hours and disembarked at a large Tourist Trap where we endured shameless pitches to buy souvenirs. We were offered our included Lunch Buffet at 10:15 am!!! Food was good if unremarkable. 1.5 hours here then to Chichen Itza from noon-2:30 pm. Provided guide was moderately knowledgeable & spent 45 minutes with us. It was 95 degrees in March... drink water! Then to a lovely Cenote for one hour which was refreshing & free of touts and hustles. Driver then spent time driving us through city of Vallidad. Old church has been closed for one year so no idea why this drive was helpful. Arrived back at hotel 12 hours after leaving and 10 hours after lunch. Suggestions: going from hotel pick ups right to Chichen Itza by 10:15 am would be a bit cooler & more pleasant. A nice buffet lunch at 1 pm would make sense followed by Cenote & back to hotels. I would NEVER repeat this long, unnecessarily tedious journey with Viatour.

Dear Travelers! Thank you for the feedback! Every opinion is very important for us and help us to make better our service! We kindly ask you to contact us directly to clarify the situation, as according to your review, you had lunch at 10:15 am, and arrived in Chichen Itza only at 2:30 pm, so it is 4 hours 15 minutes, and not 1.5 hours as you write, what is impossible. Shopping center is located in the same place where you have a lunch, there you are also invited to take part in a demo version of the shamanic ceremony, we don't force to buy suvenirs. As you can note there are some repair works on the rode and we always try to avoid traffic jams on the tour, so according to the situation on the road, we sometimes visit Valladolid after the cenote, on the way back to dropp you off. For those travelers seeking more personalized experience we usually recommend to book a private tour, where you will be picked up by private transport, you will have your own personal certificated guide and you will enjoy your own private experience having the opportunity to customize the tour. Please don´t hesitate to contact us, if there is anything else we can help you with. Best regards, OlMar Travel Team

Excellent tour of Chichen Itza

Excellent review. Our guides Carlos and Orlando were top notch. They taught us many things we did not know about Chichen Itza and spoke in both Spanish and English. Carlos took special time with my children in Chichen Itza. The denote was beautiful but cold. Everything was super clean. Lunch was surprisingly very good. Expect the obsidian to be shockingly expensive. It was a 12 hour day but well worth it. Wry well organized. Viator was in constant communication with us before our tour. Everything ran very smoothly. Highly recommend.

The guide was amazing but the commute was soooo long after picking up so many people. On the website it states approx 12 hours but we didn’t get home until 10 pm! 15 hours!! No sacked breakfast or dinner. No snacks given out on the bus and no hand sanitizer. Bus was crowded even during COVID. Loved Ave and he was very knowledgeable. Would not recommend this tour.

Dear Travelers! Thank you for the feedback! Every opinion is very important for us and help us to make better our service. Let us clarify some points. As for the antibacterial gel, we strictly comply with all COVID protocols, and all our buses are equipped with gel dispensers, which are located at the entrance to the bus. Before the start of the tour, the guide explains the safety standards and indicates where the gel is located. The same applies to the occupancy rate of the bus. According to the COVID protocols in force in Mexico, vehicle occupancy should not exceed 75% of the capacity. In your case, there were 48 people on the 65-person bus, which is 74% of the bus occupancy. As for the late return to the hotel, unfortunately, not everything always depends on us on the road and, as you saw, on the way there were traffic jams on two sections due to repair work. However, before dropping off other tourists, you were presented with a separate minivan to take you to your hotel to avoid wasting your time driving from hotel to hotel. Speaking of breakfast and dinner, as you can see in the description, this tour includes only lunch, as hotels usually offer an early breakfast or a box lunch, and for dinner, tourists arrive on time, unless there are force majeure circumstances, as this time. For those travelers seeking more personalized experience we usually recommend to book a private tour, where you will be picked up by private transport with beverages included, you will have your own personal certificated guide and you will enjoy your own private experience. Please don´t hesitate to contact us, if there is anything else we can help you with. Best regards, OlMar Travel Team
