Piazza del Colosseo, Rome, 00184

The Basics

As the second most popular attraction in Italy after only the Vatican, the Colosseum hosts some 4 million annual visitors, meaning that long lines are nearly inevitable without a skip-the-line tour. Choose from a number of tours suited to any age or interest, such as a Colosseum underground tour that heads beneath the arena floor to explore a network of passages; a small-group guided tour of the third tier; or a night tour that offers an eery experience and relief from the daytime heat. Consider group tours, self-guided audio tours, or private tours to gain an understanding of this well-preserved ancient Roman amphitheater and its historical importance.

Gladiator Gate and Arena Floor Special Access Colosseum Tour
A site I have been looking forward to for a long time, and it did not disappoint. Tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate. Many of the members did believe this was VIP access underground, however it did not include. That seemed to be a misunderstanding on my end, not understanding the areas of the Colosseum. Nonetheless, it was a great tour that I would recommend for everyone!

Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome Semi-Private Tour MAX 6 PEOPLE GUARANTEED
Touring the underground sections of the Colosseum and learning about how the events took place was excellent. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate about Roman history. The Roman Forum tour was long and it was very difficult in the extreme heat. The Colosseum tour should have been first.
Check location.. but great tour guide

Colosseum VIP Gladiators access with Arena & Ancient Rome small group tour
The tour with Latina was great and she knew her information and history very well. Bravissimo!! But the tour informazioni needs to give directions from Colosseum metro which is only one turn to the right other than a whole tour from Cavour metro where we got lost as they mentioned Via. Cavour street and so many left and right turns! We got lost and were late and had to pay for another 3 tickets.
Great experience

Small-Group Ancient Rome and Colosseum Underground Tour
Elizabetha was amazing! She was friendly, informative, and got us through our tour smoothly. My daughter wasnt feeling well and our guide was very comforting towards her. It was an extremely hot day so unfortunately we left after the colosseum tour, so didnt get to finish the extra stuff on our tour, but that was our own decision. Truly a great experience and wondeful guide!

Skip the Line: Colosseum and Ancient Rome Small-Group Walking Tour Including Pantheon and Piazza Navona
The crowds in the Colosseum were just ridiculous. It really diminishes the experience. However, this was not the fault of our guide who did her best. The tour did go on longer that I thought it would so we were incredibly tired by the end and couldn't wait for it to be over. We were 5 minutes late to the meeting point but our guide was kind enough to wait for us.
Hot weather but great guide!!

Skip The Line Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill Guided Tour
Alessandra was an amazing guide. Knowledgeable and kind- she especially watched out for an older guest due to the heat by using shaded spots to tell the colosseum history while giving us a sun break We would highly recommend her….just maybe choose the late spring or early fall to visit Rome. It was HOT in the low-mid 90’s.
Highly recommend!

Small-Group Tour of Colosseum Underground, Arena and Forum
We did this tour of Palatine Hill, the Roman Forum, and the Colosseum in June. It was so hot (try to go in a month when it’s cooler if you can), but it was completely worth it! Our tour guide Sarah was so friendly and knowledgeable. She taught us so much about the history of Rome! Plus she was thoughtful enough to stop in the shady spots when telling us about things and point out the drinking fountains to help with the heat. Definitely recommend this tour!

Fast Track: Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum Tour
We went on the tour with our guide Giuseppe who was so knowledgeable and we don’t think the tour without him. He first took us up the Pastine hill, explained for orgins of Rome, then down to the forum then over to the Colosseum last. He really made our experience.

Skip the Line: Colosseum, Forum, and Palatine Hill Tour
Laura L our tour guide was brilliant and gave us facts fun and brought the colosseum to life. The weather was very humid being June and we set off in full heat but Laura did her best to keep us in the shade and made the tour very doable and enjoyable.

When to Get There

Since the Colosseum is most crowded during the middle of the day, begin or end your Rome tour with a visit first thing in the morning or just before last entry (which is an hour before closing time) in the late afternoon. Alternatively, choose a night tour for a unique, less crowded experience. Summer is the most popular time of year to visit, while the site receives fewer crowds in November through February, aside from the Christmas and New Year holidays.
